SHORT DESCRIPTION
Casa Una is a multi-purpose public building located within Parque Una, a mixed-use urban development in Uberlândia, Brazil. Conceived as a central hub for community life, it accommodates social, cultural, educational, and commercial activities, promoting interaction between residents, visitors, and the city. With a total area of 1,060 square meters, the project emphasizes adaptability, sustainability, and a seamless relationship with its surrounding landscape. Its program includes a reception lounge, neighborhood model, sales and administrative offices, meeting rooms, a mezzanine overlooking the park’s lake, an open-air auditorium, and an educational zone. The comedoria serves meals and refreshments, reinforcing the building’s welcoming and inclusive character. The architecture is defined by a curved glued-laminated timber roof that seems to float above the park, extending beyond the envelope to form shaded transitional zones between interior and exterior. Environmental strategies such as cross ventilation, passive cooling, and the use of renewable materials minimize energy demand while enhancing user comfort. Interiors celebrate material honesty and flexibility, with exposed wood surfaces strengthening the connection to nature and local building traditions. Modular furniture configurations support diverse activities — from exhibitions and lectures to informal gatherings — allowing the space to adapt fluidly to different uses. Open and accessible to the public, Casa Una exemplifies an approach to integrated urban architecture that unites structure, landscape, and community. It represents a model for sustainable civic buildings in emerging urban contexts, translating environmental responsibility into a warm, engaging, and inclusive spatial experience.
