SHORT DESCRIPTION

RUBRUM OFFICE İzmir, Turkey Rubrum Office is located within a vineyard and olive grove in Seferihisar, Izmir. The region, known for its fertile soils suitable for wine production, has played a defining role in shaping the design. The presence of the vineyard stands as the central inspiration for the project. The linear arrangement of the vines—strategically aligned with prevailing winds to maximize yield provides the primary reference that informs the structure’s form. The design approach seeks to create a space that gently integrates into the flow of the vineyard. Embedded within the natural topography, the structure alternates between being perceived as a hidden extension of the land and emerging as a vertical landmark with its strong and accentuated walls. Its primary material is a colored, earth-based mineral plaster, symbolizing the act of nurturing and growing from the land itself. Guiding walls play a key role in the approach to the building, leading visitors toward a central courtyard. Conceived as a sheltered space, the courtyard serves as a point of reception, gathering, and distribution. Functioning as a semi-open living area, it provides comfort and protection against climatic conditions while enabling circulation between surrounding spaces. This void at the heart of the structure acts not only as a physical organizer but also as an architectural and symbolic axis. With its earthen or stone flooring and spatial arrangement, the courtyard reinterprets the typology of the traditional “Life” spaces of Aegean houses, offering a contemporary reflection of this cultural heritage.
